Spa of the Week: Dunton Hot Springs, Colorado

Sure, Colorado may be best known for its ski towns and powder-packed slopes, but there are plenty of reasons to take a trip to the Centennial State after the thaw, too. One of our favorites: the incredibly unique, boutique all-inclusive resort of Dunton Hot Springs, a restored ghost town nestled in the San Juan Mountains of the Colorado Rockies.
Bath House
Comprised of twelve cabins, many of which were hand built by the miners who occupied Dunton in the 19th century, each room has its own distinct character. Spa fans will want to book the Store Cabin, which includes a private soaking pool out back, one of six spots to take in the restorative waters here, which run between 85 and 106 degrees. The restored 19th-century Bath House offers indoor and outdoor pool options, or head to the original source for a soak under the stars. Not relaxed enough? Hit the Spa at Dunton, which offers a range of massages, facials and wraps.

Treatment to Try: We'd opt for the Dunton Hot River Massage with smooth, heated river stones that sooth muscles and rebalance energy. ($185 for 75 minutes)

While You're There: There's plenty to keep guests busy here, from fly-fishing to horseback riding to hiking, or just curl up in Dunton's library building with a good book. When hunger strikes, you'll find locally-sourced fare served alongside varietals from Dunton’s winery Sutcliffe Vineyards at the rustic Saloon & Dance Hall at the center of the property.
