Sixth Street Tavern Now Serving Fried Chicken and Donuts, Beer and More

The Acme Bar Group, the guys behind Spring St. Bar, Library Bar and Laurel Tavern, finally debuted their new Downtown gastropub last night. Sixth Street Tavern, replacing Urbano Pizza Bar, which Acme shuttered in December, is a Spring St. doppelganger, with white brick walls, reclaimed-wood slat walls, metal chairs and stools, big open windows and pressed-tin ceilings. Because it has a full kitchen, expect a fuller food menu, plus 24 taps for craft brews and cocktails.

Chef Greg Bernhardt, who's worked with Neal Fraser, Ludo Lefebvre and Kris Morningstar, is serving bar snacks like a Rockenwagner pretzel with cheese sauce, salt and vinegar potato chips with French onion dip, veg dishes like grilled shishito peppers with sea salt, and salads, sandwiches and burgers. For more-composed dishes, think buttermilk fried chicken with a donut and Tapatio whipped cream, and steak frites. The beer list at the other Acme spots is tops, so you'll find regulars from Craftsman, Ommegang, Stone and more. Sixth Street Tavern opens 3 PM-2 AM, Monday through Friday, and noon-2 AM on Saturdays and Sundays.
