Michael Psilakis Opens MP Taverna in Astoria

Chef Michael Psilakis has a few eateries in Manhattan (Fishtag, Kefi), one on Long Island and another in Westchester. Today he expands his empire of Greek restaurants with opening of MP Taverna in Astoria. This is the third location of the venue - his LI and Westchester eateries share the name and concept. Diners can expect a casual joint that will fit right in with the other options in this Greek-heavy hood. There's meze for lunch, dinner and late-night - think eggplant with roasted peppers and garlic and gyro-spiced sliders.

Whole-roast animals are available for groups and a wine list features over 50 pours available by the glass (you can order a three or a six ounce pour). 20 brews are on draft and there's already a weekday happy hour with $1 oysters and sliders. It's not a surprise that the haunt is wasting no time trying to pack them in, with 150 seats to fill, the restaurant won't be able to rely on street traffic alone.

31-29 Ditmars Blvd., Astoria; 718-777-2187
