Monday, April 29
For a taste of Spain via LA, chef Sergio Perera, who worked at San Sebastian's Arzak in Spain, as well as at Jean-Georges and Ludobites, pops up at Echo Park's Cortez starting tonight and tomorrow. Check out his contemporary, slightly molecular four-course menus for $55 (veg options available) plus a separate a la carte bar menu. Chef Anne Conness hosts an If I Were a Taco Truck beer dinner at Tin Roof Bistro in Manhattan Beach tonight. Five courses include dishes like shrimp and crab chile rellenos, Brussels sprouts and bacon tostadas, roasted duck tamale cakes and butter cake with coconut ice cream, with beer pairings from El Segundo Brewing Company. $45 gets you a seat; starts at 6:30 PM (3500 N. Wednesday, May 1
Watch local bartenders go head to head at the May Mix-Off held every Wednesday at the Mixing Room, the lobby bar at the JW Marriott at LA Live, starting tonight. Each round includes two bouts, one being Iron Chef-style. The event is free and open to the public, and snacks and handcrafted cocktails are available while they're all busy shaking and stirring. The winning cocktails from each week will be available for purchase as well (900 W. Olympic Blvd.; 213-765-8600).

Thursday, May 2
Top Chef's most affable Italian chef, Fabio Viviani, signs copies of his new cookbook, Fabio's Italian Kitchen, at Vroman's in Pasadena tonight. All the recipes are inspired by his mother's and grandmother's Italian recipes, some of which you can taste at his restaurant Cafe Firenze in Moorpark. The signing begins at 7 PM (695 E. Saturday, May 4
The LA Vegan Beer Fest makes its return to the Roxy Theater today with unlimited pours from Anchor Steam, Sierra Nevada, Golden Road, North Coast, Firestone and more, plus vegan food from STREET, Mandoline Grill, Mohawk Bend, Shojin and more. VIP tickets ($50 pre-sale, $60 day-of) get you early admittance and access to specialty kegs; general admission is $40 pre-sale and $50 at the door. 1-5 PM (8950 Sunset Blvd.).

Sunday, May 5
If you're not into a crazy Cinco de Mayo tequila-fueled party-down celebration, you can get pig-happy at Cochon 555. And on the flip side, KCRW's Evan Kleiman and author Mark Bittman talk about eating vegan before 6 PM for health and happiness. The event takes place at the New Roads School in Santa Monica and starts at 3 PM. Tickets are $20 per person.
