|Eat some cake, save a butterfly|
Today is officially Earth Day, and while we advocate saving the earth every day of the year, here are a few specials to celebrate today. Add to that list Cakes for a Cause at all La Monarca Bakery locations - starting today (through April 28), 10% of all cake sales go to the Ecolife Foundation, which helps protect the Monarch butterfly population in Mexico. And an unrelated reminder: Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne's new Larder opened at 8 AM today at Burton Way. Go grab some lunch, preferably outside.

Stop in for a weekend cocktail at Freddy Smalls, where new barman Johan Mischa Stein (Sotto, Mess Hall, Red Medicine) has created a few new quaffs for the West LA gastropub. Your weekend can't go wrong with something like the Canejo (tequila, chili, peach and lime) or the Bay Ridge (aquavit, ginger, lemon, champagne and dill). And sure, a nibble off the menu - Buffalo deviled eggs or smoked fingerling potatoes and dip, perhaps? - couldn't hurt (11520 W. Pico Blvd.; 310-479-3000).
