Giovanna's. A wood burning oven will turn out offerings for guests in the small, off-the-radar room. We've all been to hidden, speakeasy-style bars, but for those jaded NYC dwellers who roll their eyes at the latest hidden watering hole, there is now 180, which launches tomorrow in Little Italy. Instead of cocktails, you'll get pizza pie at this hidden establishment, which the owners are dubbing a "pizza speakeasy." It's located on the second floor of a tenement building on the corner of Hester and Mulberry streets above the restaurant
The pies are Neapolitan and other selections include baked pastas and something dubbed the La Vesuviana, which is a creation that's half pizza and half calzone (that one is clearly not for the dieting set out there). The joint is open until 4 AM on the weekends, so expect a good deal of tipsy patrons stumbling up the stairwell. If they can find it, that is (180 Hester Street; 212-334-3811).
