Founders of Pebble Beach and LA Food & Wine Opening Restaurant in LA

The former Towne, big and empty
Eater learns that David Bernahl and Rob Weakley - the guys behind last weekend's Pebble Beach Food & Wine and Los Angeles Food & Wine - have scooped up the shuttered Towne space in Downtown LA. The two also own Restaurant 1833 (where we shared fried chicken with Daniel Boulud) and Cannery Row Brewing Company in Monterey, so a restaurant venture isn't too off the radar for them.

There aren't many details to this right now, but we know the building that houses the restaurant is where all the LAFW after-parties took place last summer. Maybe they fell in love with the space? Who knows. It's a huge restaurant that was rarely filled in a super-hot Downtown market, just a hop and skip from LA Live, all of which may have contributed to Towne's demise. If we had to guess at a concept, it would be something contemporary American with craft beer, a serious wine program and cocktails. It's what they know.

And about Los Angeles Food & Wine, it will once again take place this August, probably later in the month, and it will still be centered around Downtown LA, though maybe not at LA Live. There's chatter that there will be more of a local hook, a complaint often heard from LA chefs and restaurateurs, and of course celebrities and chefs from around the country. And if there's a band for entertainment, we'll cross our fingers for a group that actually launched an album in the 2000s. Keep your eyes here, details coming soon.
