Downtown Rising: Tender Greens, Earthbar, Plan Check on the Way

Tender Greens will live in the PacMutual courtyard
There's no doubt that the fastest-growing culinary scene is in Downtown LA right now, and we don't expect that to slow down anytime soon. The PacMutual Building near Pershing Square is getting a renovated courtyard for a few new healthy-leaning tenants, including Tender Greens, which plans a new 3,300-sq.-ft. restaurant, its first for Downtown. Along with that, an outpost of West Hollywood's Earthbar - a "wellness center" serving organic juices and smoothies - will debut soon. The building's owners want to make this a new "restaurant row" on Sixth Street.

And big news for City West, the area just across the 110 Freeway: Plan Check has signed on to open on the ground floor of a new mixed-use building at 1111 Wilshire Boulevard. This, in addition to Terry Heller and Ernesto Uchimura's second outpost on Fairfax, means more burgers with ketchup leather, smoky fried chicken with pickled okra and giant cruller donuts for all. According to Brigham Yen, Plan Check and the other restaurant, Souk Shawarma, will open later this year.
