It is opening day of baseball season, and up to bat for Pintxo on team Barcito are chef Andrew Zimmerman (Sepia) and Phillip Foss (EL ideas). The chefs will prepare their take on Spanish small bites and serve them all-you-can-eat style for $25 from 8 to 10 PM. Proceeds benefit the charity Pilot Light (312-274-1111).
The latest installment of Storefront Company’s Discovery Series welcomes advanced sommelier Ryan C. Gaudin of Wirtz Beverage. Gaudin worked with chef Bryan Moscatello to create a menu of seasonally-inspired dishes paired with wines. Tickets cost $79 and dinner begins at 6:30 PM with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres (773-661-2609).
As the winter season winds to a close, we will not miss the snow or the cold weather or the dry skin, but we will miss Soup & Bread. The weekly pop-up soup kitchen at The Hideout continues for two more weeks before shutting down until fall. The theme this week is Chicago vs. Chicago and soup will be served at 5:30 PM with a pay-what-you-can donation.
The second installment of the Fête night market, from the ladies behind Dose, takes place at Room 1520 from 5:30-10:30 PM. Notable additions to the vendor lineup include pop-up restaurants from Ruxbin and Parson’s Chicken & Fish as well as goodies from Mama’s Nuts, Interurban Bakery and La Sirena Clandestina. Tickets cost $5.
We haven’t been paying much attention to the March Madness basketball tournament, but we have been anxiously awaiting the annual Duck Wing Madness contest at Union Sushi + BBQ. From 5-6 PM watch four contestants down as many massive duck wings as they can while sipping on complementary oysters and cocktails (312-662-4888).
April is CaramelCrisp month at Garrett Popcorn Shops, because why not? To celebrate, stop by any Garrett’s popcorn location between 10 AM and noon on Saturday for a free sample-size bag of caramel popcorn.
Sunday supper is about to get a whole lot porkier with the addition of Mercat al la Planxa’s Cochinillo Asado Sunday Supper series. This includes a four-course dinner starring a whole suckling pig. Usually the whole pig costs $440, but on Sundays it will be served for $45 (312-765-0524).
