Celebrate Mexican Week by Joining Us for Happy Hour in NYC!

Come Thursday, you could be sipping on one of these

In order to properly fete the launch of our upcoming Mexican Week, we're hosting a fiesta that 10 lucky readers will be able to attend. Next Thursday, May 2, from 6-8 PM we'll be throwing a (gratis) Happy Hour at a popular East Village tequila spot complete with margaritas, snacks and more.

To be selected, all you have to do is log into your Gmail account, scroll down to the comment section below and tell us in 75 words or less about your favorite Mexican meal. The contest closes on April 29 at 11:59 PM, at which point we'll pick our favorite entries and award the authors with two spots at Thursday's event. You can see the full rules and regulations here. The comments will be judged on creativity, thoughtfulness and entertainment. ¡Buena suerte!

  1. The lush in me credits the best Mexican meal to Curra's Grill in Austin for their unique avocado margarita, but I'll go with the chicken and waffle taco from Torchy's Tacos in Texas. A chicken/waffle combo is in itself a masterpiece, but put it in taco form and it's just too legit. Topped with eggs and BACON, it covered all the food groups that matter most to me: tacos, waffles and deliciousness.

  3. My favorite Mexican meal was last Saturday night at Taqueria in the LES. My mouth was on fire from the steak tacos, and the guacamole was the best I've ever had in the NYC. I wish every week was Mexican week!

  4. There is a taco truck or stand in Mountain View, California that makes the best tacos I've ever had. No shocking ingredients or presentation or anything, just perfectly done. Soft tacos with carnitas. So good.

  5. Favorite Mexican meal is brunch at Empellon Cocina - start with the 7 salsa tasting with airy masa crisps, then the beer braised tongue tacos with chorizo and a side of refried black beans, and end with the deep-fried churros dipped in gooey chocolate goodness. To really optimize the experience, get a pitcher of the smokey mezcal margarita.

  6. My favorite quick fix Mexican meal is from 879 Taco on the upper east side. It is this tiny hole in the wall place with the BEST nachos. I get them with the works: jalapenos, melted cheese, guacamole, chopped tomatoes, this black bean mush and sour cream! delish

  7. Tacombi in SoHo. As they say these days, it's all good! Pollo tamerindo tacos and tamales all washed down with Horchata. Drooling just thinking about it.

  8. Salvation Taco is a new favorite of mine. Delicious guacamole and awesome tacos, especially the spicy pork and the lamb. Great drinks too...really loved their margaritas and their Horchata (before they got rid of it) that came in the fun parrot cup.

  9. My favorite Mexican meal is when me and my roommate make home-made burrito bowls. He prepares the guacamole, while I prepare the rice, veggies and beans. If we're feeling really into it, we'll make micheladas to go along with it as well!

  10. My favorite Mexican meal was 3 years ago at Pampano in midtown. My boyfriend and I split the crispy rock shrimp and I had the black sea bass for my entree. Both were so so delicious. I also loved their spicy margarita, probably one of the best I've ever had! Pampano was where my boyfriend and I had our first date so I might be a little biased :)

  11. Mexican is my go-to indulgence after a train wreck of a day. I mean, I don’t know anything that can make a person happier than Sinigual’s chips and guacamole prepared tableside followed by grilled chicken and roasted corn enchiladas. Let’s not forget the necessary “keep them coming” Tropical Mai Tais and deep fried ice cream either. The card the staff wrote me certainly attributed to my bad day cure as well!
