BurgerWire: Built Opens Today, Smashburger Redondo, Burgerim WeHo

Built burgers now open
The burger trend will never wane. First of three new openings is The Counter's fast-casual concept, Built Custom Burgers, which officially opens near USC today. How does Built differ from The Counter? You still create your own burger by choosing from a slew of toppings, cheeses and condiments, but here it's like Chipotle or Subway where you move along the queue while you burger is built on the spot. The burgers are a bit less expensive and smaller, and you can get a custom-build burger in a bowl, too. To save time, order ahead via the website and pick it up. Now open daily from 11 AM to 11 PM, with free onsite parking to boot (3584 Figueroa St.; 213-742-1999).

Smashburger can't be stopped. Look for the newest location to open on Wednesday (April 3) in Redondo Beach, which joins Culver City and Thousand Oaks. The chain is known for Angus beef burgers that are smashed on the grill and topped with just about anything, including crispy wontons, fried egg, cilantro, cucumber, lettuce, tomato and ginger dressing that make up the LA-ode Fusion Burger, as well as chicken sandwiches, fries, shakes, the works (409 N. Pacific Coast Highway).

And Israel-based Burgerim debuted in the former O Burger space in West Hollywood last week, bringing smaller-sized burgers and Mediterranean flair to Kobe beef, lamb and ahi tuna patties. Sides include Moroccan-dusted onion rings, quinoa salad and beignets for dessert (8593 Santa Monica Blvd.; 310-854-0234). [Eater]
