Best Thing We Ate This Week: Croissant at Maison Villatte

The croissant at Maison Villatte in Falmouth is worth the trip from Boston.
Easter Sunday we settled into a table at the recently opened Maison Villatte, a patisserie-boulangerie in Downtown Falmouth on Cape Cod. The place is a quaint café with a tiled floor and fresh tulips, small tables and rustic chairs.

But attention getters are the glass cases filled with all kinds of gorgeous French pastries - eclairs, brioche, quiche, breads, fruit tarts, savory tarts, calfoutis, cookies, macaroons.

The pièce de résistance are the croissants. Our plain croissant was an airy, buttery, chewy-in-a-tender-pastry-way masterpiece, better than the croissant we recall from Paris. We can also vouch for the chocolate croissant, a dark chocolate sweetness twisted with the buttery pastry.

The line at the counter never ceased. No surprise this place is such a hit. Boris Villatte is the Frenchman behind the bakery, which seats 20. Villatte is the former co-owner of PB Boulangerie Bistro, the renowned French bakery/restaurant in Wellfleet, which received a 28 Food rating from Zagat in the latest guide. 

Maison Villatte is open Wednesday through Saturday, 7 AM-7 PM; and Sunday, 7 AM-5 PM.
