Benefit Helps Injured Big Star Sous

On April 4, Big Star’s sous chef Joseph Gleeson was riding his bike down Milwaukee Ave. when he was hit by a car. He slammed into a parked car, breaking off a mirror. According to DNA Info, he came to in a gutter when a man named Stan was assessing his injuries. Despite Gleeson insistence that he was fine, Stan drove him to a nearby hospital where he was treated for a broken wrist and thumb. Good Samaritan Stan was never heard from again, nor was the driver who hit Gleeson. Now, friends and neighbors are helping the recent Los Angeles transplant pay for his medical expenses.

A benefit will be held on Sunday at The Charleston from 6 PM to 2 AM. City Soles, Reckless Records, Decibel Audio, sister restaurants from One Off Hospitality (Avec and Publican Quality Meats) as well as Gleeson’s former employer Girl & the Goat, donated items for a silent auction. The evening will also include a DJ and raffle. There is suggested donation at the door of $5, which includes one drink ticket. Also, if anyone knows a kind Russian man named Stan, his next meal at Big Star is on the house.
