Mediterranean Chef is best-known for Grandma’s Humus, a thick, tangy hummus made with organic garbanzo beans that owner Nikki Kaya started selling long ago at farmers’ markets in town. Unbeknownst to most of Austin, the Mediterranean Chef also has a storefront and café, tucked into the Brentwood neighborhood off 2222 and Aurora. Stop in at the sparse but welcoming space for a gyro, meat pie with grass-fed beef or a flaky, pecan-filled piece of baklava. Or, like us, just load up on Grandma’s Hummus, which has been said to be worth its weight in gold.
