Win a Chance to Join Us at Chicago's 30 Under 30 Event!

If last year you scoped our list, read the live blog, saw the party photos and thought (with good reason) that our 30 Under 30 party sure looked fun, listen up - this year you could score an invitation!

All you have to do is log into your Gmail account, scroll down to the comment section below and tell us in 75 words or less what restaurant or chef in Chicago you consider to be innovative or a culinary trailblazer. The contest closes on March 21 at 11:59 PM, at which point we'll pick our favorite entry and award that person with a $250 prepaid gift card and two spots at our 30 Under 30 event in the West Loop on Monday, March 25 at 7:30 PM. To sweeten the deal, 10 runner-ups will receive two invitations each to attend a special Zagat Happy Hour in the same neighborhood at the same date and time.

You can see the full rules and regulations here. The comments will be judged on creativity, thoughtfulness and entertainment. Good luck!

Update: Congratulations to our winner TattedCubbieBlue!

  2. Chef Thai Dang of Embeya is a culinary trailblazer because he has done the impossible! His Brussel Sprouts are to die for! I mean, who, likes Brussel Sprouts? Well, I do, as long as they come from Chef Dang's kitchen!

  3. I'd like to nominate a chef-in-training, 19-year-old Hillary Grossman, pastry chef at Chicago's City Winery. Hillary is finishing her training at Kendall College but has already been making waves at City Winery, creating macarons and dark chocolate tortes, among other delicate treats. There's no doubt there's more in store for Hillary as she continues to impress City Winery patrons!

  4. I continue to be wow'ed by Yusho. Tucked away in a neighbourhood that’s off the beatenpath, this place continually makes me venture out of my comfort zone for delicious food. The bar program is exceptional, and everything from the double fried chicken to the outstanding ramen continues to bring me back. Any restaurant that expands culinary interest while bringing me to a unique part of the city deserves to be known as a trailblazer.

  5. My answer encompasses a crawl-can't pick just one! First cocktails at Violet Hour, their off the menu drinks (vodka cobbler) and seasonal libations are the perfect mix of strength and flavor. Next spot, Avec because of the fresh and flavorful options-whole roasted fish done right! Dessert and Bubbles at RM Champagne Salon. Their assortment of petit fores-especially the French macaroons are adorable and delicious ! Perfect spot for late night lingering.

  6. I'd go with Storefront Company for its great food, atmosphere, and social dining experience I had there. Food freshly picked, drinks expertly mixed. Whats not to like? Has a great different feel compared to everything else in Wicker Park, it stands out in the best way possible.

  7. Just found this and can't believe I missed the deadline! But here's to hoping that luck is on my side and the kind people judging extend it by a few hours...

I would like to nominate Stephanie Izard and her amazing team for Girl & the Goat and Little Goat. Anyone who can single handedly increase the price of goat meat in the US because of the demand they have created for it definitely deserves some recognition. Go eat a goat empanada at G&TG and then run, RUN, across the street for Elvis Waffles at Little Goat. Now take a nap and enjoy food coma bliss.
