Vetri and Brad Spence Are Philly’s James Beard Award Nominees

Philly restaurants didn’t make much of a showing on the previously announced semifinalist list for the James Beard Foundation Awards (often referred to as the “Oscars of the food world”), so there wasn’t too much we could hope for at the final nominee reveal today. However, Brad Spence of Amis received a finalist nod for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic, and Vetri was selected as a finalist for Outstanding Service, a nationwide category. The winners will be announced at a gala at Avery Fischer Hall in NYC on May 6.

Also of local interest are a few nominees in the food journalism section of the awards. Joy Manning garnered a finalist spot under Personal Essay for her Table Matters piece “The Swedish Chef.” WHYY NewsWorks host Lari Robling was also nominated for Radio Show/Audio Webcast, and WHYY’s Monica Rogozinski is a finalist for the “Friday Arts, Art of Food” TV show.
