Umami Mia Pizzeria to Officially Open in Early May

Umami Mia is finally going to make an honest woman out of the old Romeo’s space on Barton Springs: the restaurant has set a date to open in early May, with chef George Thomas (Soleil, Paggi House, Kenichi) at the helm. The pizzeria will serve – you guessed it – pizza, but as co-owner Mark Turner said in a press release this afternoon,
"We also want to familiarize Austin with the concept of umami. The tastes of sweet, salty, bitter and sour are familiar, but umami is the lesser-known fifth taste. Described as rounded, rich and savory, umami is found naturally in foods like ripe tomatoes, Parmesan cheese and mushrooms. Umami Mia Pizzeria spotlights the umami taste in every dish."  
Look forward to hanging out on the massive patio in just a few weeks and noshing late-night on a “Here Piggy” pizza with a Mexitalia margarita in hand.
