St. Patrick's Day Fire Damages Roof of Old Town Social

The second restaurant fire of the week ended less tragically on St. Patrick’s Day. A fire broke out on the roof of Old Town Social on Sunday around 3:30 PM. An official statement from the restaurant stated that the fire was the result of materials from routine roof maintenance left too close to the chimney. The fire was contained to the street-side corner of the roof and black smoke could be seen billowing from the top of the restaurant. Patrons were evacuated while the Chicago fire department responded and quickly extinguished the fire. Minimal damage was done to the roof and nobody was injured. The restaurant reopened by 7 PM.

In a less official statement, executive chef Jared Van Camp tweeted shortly after the fire, “Yes, the roof, the roof, the roof WAS on fire ‪@OldTownSocial. Rest assured, it was a very small fire and we will reopen tonight at 7 PM.”
