Qatar Considers Futuristic Floating Hotels

The Gulf countries these days can feel like a Jetsons fever dream come to life, from indoor ski resorts to man-made islands shaped like palm trees. The latest futuristic proposal? Floating hotels. Finnish architecture firm Sigge Architects recently met with officials in Qatar to discuss the potential for aquatic accommodations ahead of the 2022 World Cup. The swooping, glass-wrapped structures could have their own power generation, recycling and sewage treatment onsite. And, should the owner choose, the entire hotel can be relocated to a different destination. We think this concept holds real potential, especially for creating hotels in remote areas that might lack power and sewage infrastructure. Where would you like to see a floating hotel? Would you book a night here or do you prefer to be on solid ground?
