Padrecito Debuts Mexican Cantina and Cocktail Bar in Cole Valley Tonight

Dial P for Padrecito
Padrecito, the spin-off Cole Valley Cali-fresh Mexican taqueria and cantina from the gang behind the Marina's Mamacita, Umami, Blue Barn and Tipsy Pig is set to open to the public tonight in the former EOS space. Named after the Spanish word that means "little priest", the locally sourced Mexican menu (see it here) overseen by executive chef Luis Contreras is broken down into categories: tacos (fish, goat, bacon) botanas (ceviche, guacamole), salads and soups and enchiladas and chilaquiles. Of particular note, the kitchen will showcase made-to-order fresh corn and flour tortillas and produce that comes from co-owner Sam Josi's family farm in Sonoma.

The eco-chic, bi-level 75-seat dining room outfitted with lots of reclaimed wood, Mexican tiles and light furnishings and large glass windows overlooking the street will play host to dinners from Tuesday-Sunday from 5:30-10 PM. Still, given the gang's pedigree with nightlife, we're betting that the 25-seat bar that specializes in mezcal, tequila and brown liquor mixed drinks (see the cocktail menu here) and plans to stay open until midnight, will quickly assume its place as the new go-to watering hole in the otherwise sleepy 'hood. Down the line, the team hopes to expand to add lunch and brunch service.

Padrecito: 901 Cole St; 415-742-5505 94117; opens tonight
