Nearly 40% of German airline Lufthansa's flights were cancelled today due to a strike ahead of wage talks, Reuters reports. Although the strike is due to end mid-morning, the airline expects cancellations and delays to continue throughout the day. This comes just a year after a similar strike caused the airline to cancel more than 1,000 flights. Both strikes protested wage cuts, which the airline says are necessary to make it competitive with discount and Middle East carriers. Today's cancelled flights should mainly affect European flights. The airline said it is trying to keep its intercontinental flights on schedule.
