James Beard Semifinalists From Barley Swine and Trace Gear Up for the Awards

The winners  finalists of the James Beard Awards will be announced on March 18, and quite a few Austinites have been nominated. Texas Monthly has the story about two of the semifinalists for Rising Star Chef of the Year, Janina O’Leary, the pastry chef at Trace, and Bryce Gilmore, the mastermind behind Barley Swine. Gilmore has also been nominated for Best Chef: Southwest.

O’Leary talks about her collaborations with the on-staff forager at the upscale restaurant inside the W Hotel and her passion for ice cream (think Cheerios berry-swirl), and Gilmore discusses evolution at Barley Swine and the reappearance of his popular Odd Duck establishment.
