| A couple of chefs relax at the end of the 2011 event |
Partly because the roster of chefs who descend on the Navy Yard to prepare gourmet bites for attendees is impressive - this year 13 of the participants are James Beard Award semifinalists. Partly because the foundations that benefit from the event are strong and doing great things for children. Partly because the auction that takes place in the middle of the shindig offers some pretty amazing prizes - last year someone won a 21-course private dinner with Marc Vetri, Benjamin, Jeff Michaud and Michael Solomonov promising to cook in their underwear (they shelled out $38,000 to charity for that one).
In general, it’s a great time for a good cause with amazing food and drink. Plus, it’s always well-coordinated - if you’ve been to other sampling events and been frustrated by non-moving lines and crowds, you won’t find that here. If you want to be a sponsor, you can set that up online, too.
