Coming Soon: Mendocino Farms Sandwiching at Figat7th

Mendo at Fairfax and Third
The next entry to the growing food options at Taste at Figat7th is the popular sandwichsmiths, Mendocino Farms. Owners Mario del Pero, Ellen Chen and chef-owner Judy Han are no strangers to Downtown LA, of course, since the first Mendo opened under California Plaza in 2005. But since then, they've pretty much exploded across town, with two other DTLA locations (the newest makes three), plus outposts in West Hollywood, Marina del Rey, and the big one that opened at Third and Fairfax across from the Original Farmers Market last May. The space, designed by Poon Design, will have the same sort of fun flair as Fairfax with natural woods, turf-covered benches, chalk-drawn walls and an open kitchen.

The menu is also the same: artisanal sandwiches, farm-sourced ingredients, fresh salads, unique sodas and more. A few new sandwiches include turkey confit with yellow Rooster Sauce and sesame-ginger papaya slaw on a Dolce Forno scallion roll; mac and cheese (yes, a sandwich) with bacon marmalade, toasted kale and smoked gouda on grilled rustic white bread; and braised lamb shoulder with mint pesto. There will be a few pre-opening parties this weekend, but the Figat7th location officially debuts on Tuesday, April 2. On Saturday, April 6, there's a family day party - kids eat free with the purchase of a sandwich or salad.

Next up: Mendo opens in Sherman Oaks tentatively by late summer, with locations slated for Pasadena and Orange County as well.
