Cocktail Hour: Manmosa Cocktail at Banger's Sausage House and Beer Garden

Obviously a manmosa is superior to this regular-sized mimosa; photo courtesy Flickr user ilovememphis
Austin’s more than just a drinking town. It’s also a city that produces almost enough alcohol to satisfy its unquenchable thirst. That’s why each week we want to highlight a local spirit maker, brewer or interesting cocktail that keeps our spirits up in more ways than one.

It only takes one tiny umbrella in some guys' drinks to turn them off from a whole range of cocktails for life. Luckily for those guys, there’s a new drink called the manmosa that will keep them safe and gender-appropriately sound.

Food Republic says the cocktail started appearing at the Chandelier Room in New York in 2010, and since then versions and recipes have cropped up everywhere (even on the Martha Stewart: Everyday Food blog).

So what’s in a manmosa? Beer and orange juice, as far as we can tell. But on Sundays Banger’s Sausage House and Beer Garden serves a drink by the same name to go with its revamped Sunday brunch. It’s pretty much just a rebranded, Texas-size 1-litre mimosa, limited to one per customer. We’ve heard the drink is so powerful you might need to share one with your buddy (no homo).
