Chez Panisse Makes Lemonade out of Lemons During the Closure

Chez Panisse cafe whipping up lunch the clean-up crew
Alice Waters and her supporters are making lemonade out of lemons. Her fire-ravaged Chez Panisse isn't expected to reopen until early June (at the earliest) but Water's tells Eater National how touched she is at how the neighborhood has been rallying around the restaurant, stopping by to offer signs of support ("they just want to bring a broom and sweep"). To wit, Waters tweeted last night about two young Berkeley girls who hosted a bake sale and lemonade stand (with Meyer lemons, natch) on the restaurant's behalf. In the meantime, the staff, who are all being retained during the restoration process, have been cooking up some amazing-looking staff meals for the clean-up crew. That's cafe chef Nathan Alderson above, grilling up rib eyes and spring onions for lunch.
