Joining the wave of new chocolatiers (The Chocolate Lab and Dandelion Cafe) is Charles Chocolates, the latest retail store and café endeavor by local artisan chocolate maker Chuck Siegel that just opened in the Mission. In this third go-round (he previously operated shops in Emeryville and the Westfield Centre), you’ll find many of his award-winning chocolate confections including his edible box of fleur de sel caramels (yes, the box is edible), perfect-for-Passover chocolate-covered matzah, chocolate "snacking cake", cookies and other cacao-flavored goodies that can be enjoyed on site or for take-away (the entire line is also available online). However, the biggest draw is the facility’s new exhibition kitchen that allows visitors to watch the candy-making operation in action. In the coming weeks, the nano chocolate factory will introduce more of his signature chocolates along with some additional café snacks (such as made-to-order s’mores) and a patio seating area.
