Boston Beer Week Kicks Off, March 8-17; Dinners, Tastings, Pubcrawls

Just in time for St. Paddy’s Day (or rather, leading up to it) is Boston Beer Week, happening March 8-17. Sponsored by Beer Advocate, the week celebrates everything beer in Greater Boston and beyond; and wouldn’t you know, we have lots of it here. Greater Boston has about 40 breweries across several counties. Among the festivities you'll find special dinners at restaurants, tastings at select liquor stores, pub crawls and more.

Kick it off Friday night, March 8, with a Boston Brew Tours pub crawl to various locales (5 PM; 617-453-8687; click here for details or to sign up).

Blue Inc. will be rolling out a three-course prix fixe dinner featuring dishes paired with Goose Island Beer from March 8-14 ($50 per person; 617-261-5353). On March 15, chef Jason Santos will up the ante with a four-course meal paired with Goose Island, which inclues a goodie bag of brewery items and Blue Inc. surprises (seatings 5:30 and 8:30 PM; $65 per person; 617-261-5353).

On March 12 at Stoddard’s, beer bloggers takeover with an evening of local brews (Newburyport’s Riverwalk Brewing Company, Norton’s Bog Iron Brewing and the Tree House Brewing Company) and various tasting opportunities. Proceeds for the pay-as-you-go event will go to Pints for Prostates, a nonprofit that focuses on prostate cancer awareness (6-9 PM; 617-426-0048).

On March 13, check out John Harvard’s in Harvard Square for a four-course meal with beer pairings, which include Epilogue (a five-year-old sour blended with a lime zest saison - sounds pretty fancy!) and a bourbon barrel-aged Imperial Stout (5-10 PM; $30 per person; 617-868-3585).

Also on March 13, Meadhall kicks off an early St. Patrick’s Day celebration by toasting with a Belgian-style McChouffe by Brasserie D’Achouffe (6-8 PM; 617-714-4372).
