Best Thing We Ate This Week: Affogato at Dolcezza

Trust the Italians to combine two things that we love - espresso and gelato - into something that elevates their distinctive qualities in a wonderful way. For a classic affogato, meaning “drowned,” espresso is poured over a vanilla coupe. In honor of Coffee Week, we stopped by one of Dolcezza’s stylish mod shops, for the treat.

Dolcezza sources local farms for its fresh tasting Argentine-style gelato. The cool, creamy, taste contrasts deliciously with the warm espresso. The rich coffee flavors blossom making it, for us, an indulgence as appealing as a fudge sundae. Not surprisingly, the affogato concept has become Americanized, with affogato variations of cocktails, tiramisu and versions made with all sorts of flavored ice creams.
