Paulie Gee's, the other night to sample their wood-fired Neopolitan pies first hand. Paulie himself circulates typically while you're there, checking in on each table and apologizing that he didn't remember you from last time - adorable. The eatery is set in a space that resembles a Bavarian beer hall/farm house with large clunky wooden tables and booths for seating and lit up lamp shades adorning the wooden rail that lines the walls just below the ceiling. As for the pies, we tried the "feel like bacon love," the greenpointer and the hellified porkpie white - all of which were excellent.
Our favorite had to be the hellified porkpie white which was topped with spicy sopressata, sweet Italian fennel sausage, sliced red onion, fresh garlic, mozzarella, basil and mike's hot honey. We're not usually a fan of white pies but the hot honey is what made this one - it was the perfect combo of spicy and sweet and not something we've ever had before on pizza. For the first time, we didn't miss the tomato sauce. Waits can be long here so best to stop by on a weeknight with a smaller party.
