Austin Drank $42.8 Million Worth of Alcohol in February Alone

Loft Bar at the Hilton
With all the fancy bars focusing on craft cocktails and microbrews, you’d think that most of the drinks would be poured into chiseled ice or custom pint glasses. But it turns out that in Austin in February, hotels still sold the most alcohol. The Austin American-Statesman reports that overall, bars, restaurants and hotels sold $42.8 million worth of alcohol in the second month of the year, which is about $2 million more than last year.

And the biggest seller? The downtown Hilton, which sold $371,921 worth of booze. The other bars with the highest numbers were the W Hotel and the Four Seasons, both downtown. Those are some pretty hefty numbers, and it’s no wonder the Daily Beast rated us as the fifth drunkest city in the world.

This new info takes a particularly interesting spin when considering that Lustre Pearl and other downtown bars might lose their liquor licenses over alcohol-related accidents.
