Tiki Two Ways: A Taste of The Tropics Pops Up in Chicago

The Shrinebuilder at The Whistler
By Sarah Freeman
Hope you were planning on drinking this week. We've discovered a vacation in a glass will be served at two Tiki parties popping up around Chicago. Time to break out the Hawaiian shirt to sip on some cocktails with tiny umbrellas.

Red Door
Tonight, the Bucktown bar will transform into a tiki aficionados wildest dream when four bartenders break into the rum cabinet. Charles Joly (The Aviary), Lynn House (Blackbird), Josh Pearson (Sepia) and Jay Schroeder (Red Door) will be providing the tiki libation with food prepared by cooks from Avec. The event costs $25, which includes four drink tickets and food, and proceeds benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository (773-697-7221).

The Whistler
Because it is too easy to just host another tiki night, the bartenders in Logan Square have issued a challenge to create delicious tiki drinks without rum. What? Blasphemy! No really, Wednesday's event is a sequel to its first non-tiki tiki night that created concoctions such as the Shrinebuilder with green chartreuse, Verdita (cilantro, mint, pineapple, lime, jalapeƱo and habanero), Falernum, lime and mint. Drinks begin at 6 PM (773-227-3530).
