Thursday Means Beer at American Sardine Bar and Devil’s Den

What is it about Thursdays that makes them such a popular night for beer happenings? Yesterday we noted February 7 will be the release party for Fette Sau’s two new custom brews, but if you can’t make it out to Fishtown, you can still get beer happy at two events in South Philly.

There are a few tickets remaining for the “A-hop-eclipse Now” dinner at American Sardine Bar, which features the eccentric bites of chef Scott Schroeder paired with the wacky brews of Dogfish Head. The $70 price tag brings you a trio of snacks like anchovy-stuffed olives, a main plate of polenta with pork ragu, a cheese plate and ricotta donuts for dessert. Beer to go along includes new release Rhizing Bines and the rare 75 Minute IPA in cask. Call to reserve your spot (215-334-2337).

If food is secondary to your brew craving, Devil’s Den is where you want to spend your Thursday eve. Starting at 7 PM, the South Philly bar will be tapping four special Weyerbacher beers for a Vertical Insanity tasting. The Easton, PA brewery’s Blithering Idiot will be served, along with three different vintages of Weyerbacher Insanity, made by aging the Idiot in oak casks. Tasting flights and tulip glass pours will be available on a pay-as-you-go basis (215-339-0855).
