The Egyptian Alternative to a Sandwich

Middle Eastern cookbook author Anissa Helou is bringing a new Egyptian street food concept to Covent Garden next month.

Koshari Street, the "hole-in-wall" restaurant, is named after the traditional vegetarian dish the menu is based around. Giving falafel a run for its money, this warming bowl consists of lentils, rice and pasta topped with spicy tomato sauce, caramelised onion and boiled chickpeas. Helou gives the dish a personal touch with toasted vermicelli, a blend of herbs, nuts and spices and will offer it in "mild", "hot" or "mad" options.

Each portion (priced at £3.95) provides an affordable and healthy lunchtime alternative to a sandwich. Also on the menu will be salads, soups and Egyptian desserts.
