The Best Thing We Ate Last Night: Scallops at Talula's Garden

Another jaunt to Philly this weekend led us to Talula's Garden - Aimee Olexy and Stephen Starr's Washington Square American eatery. We'd been eager to check it out for some time, and what we tasted did not disappoint. The plates here do not skimp on ingredients, but despite the seemingly complicated descriptions on the menu, every dish we tried melded each flavor together perfectly. Case in point - the roasted barnegat scallops with celery and celery root “chowder,” house-cured bacon, Little-necks and meyer lemon clam broth. The sweetness of the scallops was offset by the smoky bacon, savory celery root and salty Littlenecks. The menus at Talula's change constantly pending the seasonality and availability of ingredients but you can definitely count on sampling some of the most interesting and thoughtfully composed plates in town.
