Suburban Sprawl: Restaurants Making Moves North of Chicago

While the suburbs may not offer the fine dining that Chicago does so well, a few new spot will serve enticing options by spring. The first, Guildhall in Glenoce, boasts a Tru-trained chef. The second is a new outpost in Evanston for the successful River North restaurant, Farmhouse.

Guildhall takes over the former 3,000-square-foot location of Wienecke Hardware/Active Endeavors at 694 Vernon Avenue. The folks behind it have more than few years of restaurant experience. Eric Fosse is founder and CEO of Homemade Pizza Co., he will be working with a Glencoe resident as well as a real estate developer. The most noteworthy addition to the team is chef Christian Ragano, who cooked for a year at Tru before spending nine years at NoMI. He will serve seasonal American fare with global influences such as line-caught stripped bass, rack of lamb and housemade penne.

Crain’s reports that the restaurant will open in mid-March, while the second location of Farmhouse also plans for an early 2013 opening. The beer and burger restaurant with a focus on midwestern ingredients launched a Twitter feed for their new space at 703 Church Street.
