Russet Hosting New Weekly CSA

We'll have to wait a bit for peaches and plums
Spring is just around the corner, and that means local produce is about to start popping. Make collecting loads of fresh fruits and vegetables easy by joining the new CSA coming to Russet. Chef Andrew Wood has been working with Steve Bowes Organic Family Farms for the past year, and regularly uses produce from the Milton, PA farm on his daily-changing menu.

The CSA will feature a convenient weekly Thursday pickup at the Center City restaurant, which is centrally located on Spruce just west of 15th Street. The cost to join will average out to around $45 per week, and members have the option of joining for one, two or three seasons.

Steve Bowes has been around for six generations, and only farms organically, but does make use of some technology - heated tunnels protect crops from frost and extend the growth season, so you can expect your CSA haul to include produce you might not usually see at any given time. In the first distribution, which is set for March 6, members can expect asparagus, carrots, turnips, beets, garlic, celery, leeks, parsnips, eight different varieties of heirloom apples and more. Find out more via e-mail or give the restaurant a call to sign up (215-546-1521).
