Pizza Mania: Tria Taproom, Pizza Bar, Kermit's Bake Shop, Zavino

Pies at In Riva are getting plenty of company
Pizzeria Vetri isn’t the only new pie shop coming to Philadelphia. This week brought news of no less than four new pizza ventures in Philadelphia.

Jonathan Myerow confirmed that Tria Taproom will take over the former Rum Bar spot next to the Irish Pub in Rittenhouse. In contrast to the three other Tria locations, this one will have a full kitchen - and an oven, presumably, since it will focus on pizza and beer. Look for a summer opening [Foobooz].

Pizza Bar is the creative name Brian Nagele has given to his new Northern Liberties joint. It’s actually inside Kings Oak at the Piazza, an enclave with a separate bar serving craft brews and brick oven pies. Open now, according to reports [The Insider].

Adam Ritter, who owns the Sidecar Bar & Grille and Kraftwork, is bringing Kermit’s Bake Shop to 22nd and Washington. Delivery is the plan for this pizza parlor, which will be slinging traditional American pies, and it will also be a bakery, featuring the goods of Next Great Baker contestant Chad Durkin. Kermit is Ritter’s cat, in case you’re wondering, in turn named after jazz great Kermit Ruffins. Opening in a couple of months, if all goes well [Foobooz].

The new Drexel housing project, which already has landed a Shake Shack, Philly’s first Joe’s Coffee and an outpost of sushi spot Zama, will also have pizza. Zavino is expanding from to West Philly, in a space triple the size of the Midtown Village original. Expect an early fall launch [The Insider].
