Our Austin: Gourmands

To celebrate our new Austin blog, we're highlighting the must-try spots for every Austinite (and visitor!) in the "Our Austin" series. Check for 'em every day to discover tried-and-true Austin locales that you may know well or may find for the first time!

You have to know about this neighborhood pub on Webberville to find it. However, once you walk inside what used to be a Tejano night club, you know you’re in the right place. Gourmands serves local brews like Hops and Grain in big goblets and giant sandwiches to match. It’s chill and sparse but at the same time full of hip locals playing games and chatting it up.

The bar also hosts fun events like “Runners Anonymous” (the group leaves Gourmands every Thursday for a three- or five-mile run, then comes back and drinks all those calories back).

And though the sandwiches and beer are the draw here, the beer-broccoli-cheese soup served in a hearty bread bowl is irresistible.

  1. I am lucky enough to work a few blocks from Gourmands. Great place for lunch.
