Wing Bowl. In its 21 years, the competition has grown into a huge spectacle, and is only partially about food - the chowing down is preceded by a “Wingette” beauty contest. Incoming Eagles coach Chip Kelly also made an appearance, to great fanfare.
The eating contest is the main attraction, however. This year an out-of-towner was crowned victorious, to the crowd’s dismay. According to Philly.com, New England’s “The Bear” beat out the local contenders in the competition by downing 287 wings in a half hour, which is split into two 14-minute speed eating rounds plus a final two-minute “sprint.” He wins $20,000 from Steven Singer Jewelers.
If the event somehow makes you crave wings (instead of the opposite), check out where to get great ones for the game this weekend here. Just be sure to take your time when you eat them.
