National Notice: Vedge in GQ, Opa in Details

A couple of nice hits for Philly favorites showed up in March editions of national print magazines. In GQ, meat-and-potatoes guy Alan Richman fell for cult-favorite vegan Vedge, and fell hard, naming it one of the 12 Most Outstanding Restaurants of 2013. He suggests chef Rich Landau’s staff must include “a benevolent gremlin or a fairy godmother who sprinkles magic dust over the pots and the pans,” and finds the service and atmosphere just as entrancing. Congrats to Rich and wife-partner Kate Jacoby for the well-deserved plaudits.

Over at Details, editors put together a list of the best new Greek restaurants in the country, and included Midtown Village’s Opa (the piece is not yet published online). The feta-stuffed bifteki burger (one of our favorites) is noted, as is the hidden Drury Beer Garden out back. Brother and sister partners George and Vasiliki Tsouris recently celebrated the taverna’s two-year anniversary and expanded operating hours to include Sundays, when service begins at 1 PM. What’s next from the pair? We can’t wait to see.
