Meet Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper at Ed Bacon Reception

John Hickenlooper is the kind of native son that does Philly proud. Originally from Narberth, he went on to become mayor of Denver and then Governor of Colorado, a position he now holds. Not only is the dude an urban renewal champion, he’s also a craft beer aficionado - he was one of the founders of Wynkoop Brewing Company and is an avid homebrewer to this day.

We had a chance to hear the man speak at last year’s Great American Beer Festival media luncheon, and he won our approval not only for his shoutout to the Daily News’ Joe Sixpack, but also for his great speech on the importance of artisanal restaurants and craft breweries in rising American cities like our own.

Hickenlooper will be in town on Thursday, February 21 because the Philadelphia Center for Architecture is honoring him with its annual Ed Bacon award. If you’re into design as well as food, snag a ticket to the VIP reception ($150; 5:30-6:30 PM) or just to the awards ceremony ($25; 7 PM), both held at the Center’s headquarters at 1218 Arch Street, just north of Reading Terminal Market (tickets here).
