Más Tacolicous, Menos MF Chicken

Like mushrooms after the rains, the ever-popular Tacolicious is popping up all over the Bay Area. Over the weekend, the farmers’-market-stand-cum-bonafide Mexican restaurant opened its third brick and mortar shop down in Palo Alto. Dubbed T-lish 3.0, the new all-day/late-night branch (outfitted with another Paul Madonna mural, shown above) showcases the chainlet’s signature seasonal Cal-Mex chupitos, tacos and sides (sadly, the Marina Chick salad hasn’t been renamed the Shallow Alto salad—what gives?), along with a full slate of drinks – aqua frescas, cervezas and tequila-based cocktails in the bar area. Daily happy hour specials (a selection of $5 drinks and $5 bites from 4- 6 PM) and late-night kitchen hours (‘til midnight daily) are likely to attract the Stanford kids.

In addition, the team has scooped up a “dream location” in North Beach (1548 Stockton St and Columbus) to open their fourth locale. All of this expansion is a boon to taco lovin’ locavores and health-oriented diners in the South Bay and North Beach (85% of three menus is gluten free and 55% vegetarian), but means a loss for Noe Valleyites. According to the T-lish rep, as a result of all this “unplanned” rapid-fire expansion is that the restaurant group has scrapped plans to open MF Chicken, the fast-casual Mexican rosticceria that was to go into the Hahn’s Hibachi space on Castro at 24th St.

 Tacolicious 3.0: Now open at 632 Emerson,Palo Alto; 650-838-0500
