Marine Ices Sold to Italian Restaurant Chain

North London institution, Marine Ices has been sold to restaurant chain Ponits. Family-run for four generations, the popular Chalk Farm restaurant and gelateria was set up in 1931 by Gaetano Mansi who came to London from Ravello in Southern Italy.

As well as serving authentic Italian dishes (pizza, pasta, antipasti), it was always the ice creams and sorbets that attracted the majority of their custom. Made on site using fresh ingredients, speciality flavours included tiramisu, Ferrero Rocher, Piedmont Hazlenut and Jamaican Rum 'n' Raisin. Let's hope the new owners are familiar with the expression, "if it ain't broke...

  1. This is terrible news. So many of our family celebrations have been at Marine Ices. I have been going there since I was 17 and I had hoped to celebrate my 60th there next year. Their Linguine Marinara is the best I have ever tasted. I have dreams about it. What will happen to the chef and the delicious flavours of Ice Cream?

    1. well check the news time out..... this report is wrong. Many more birthday to be with marine ices
