Lungomare Makes An Opening Splash in Jack London Square

Oakland’s industrial waterfront may not exactly be the first place you think of to reenact la bella vita, but Chop Bar owner Chris Pastena’s latest and splashiest (no pun intended) new coastal Italian restaurant overlooking San Francisco Bay in Jack London Square, Lungomare, beckons you to do just that. Not surprisingly, the menu, which is inspired by the Cinque Terre region, is seafood-centric (think crudos, cured fish, whole fish, squid ink chitarra pasta, Ligurian fish stew), but it also includes a slew of antipasti, handmade pasta, wood-fired pizza and house-cured meats overseen by Craig DiFonzo (formerly of Cantinetto Piero).

The 120-seat restaurant offers a little something for everyone--a spacious, glass-paneled heated patio for watching the marina, a large bar and lounge specializing in craft cocktails, Ligurian wines and special custom brews from Linden Street Brewery and an adjacent café that’s open early for grabbing coffee, morning pastries and lunch to-go.

1 Broadway, Oakland; 510-444-7171, dinner only this weekend, regular hours begin Monday, February 11 serving, breakfast (in the café), lunch and dinner seven days a week.

  1. You can make reservations on their website with the Food Network's newest reservation application called CityEats too! They gave me $10 for using it on opening weekend: http://www.lungomareoakland.com/
