Happy Birthday, Daikokuya!

Lent Schment. If you didn't give up meat - how could you? - then check out the new King Hot Dog joint in Koreatown. The suasagefest includes beef hot dogs covered in kimchi, or onions, peppers and galbi beef, or avocado, onion, bacon and feta. These things are so messy, they even give you plastic gloves to eat with. Now open daily (151 N. Western Ave.; 323-460-4744).

As if the lines at Daikokuya weren't long enough, today through Friday (Feb. 20-22) the Little Tokyo ramen shop will have the namesake porky ramen (Daikoku) for only $5 to celebrate its 11th anniversary. That's a $3 discount, all day long, open to close. And longer lines that you've ever seen (327 E. 1st St.; 213-626-1680).

The Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach, which holds the annual Ultimate Wine Festival, launches a monthly Wine Academy this week. This month the low-key rooftop event features a selection of Trinchero wines and passed apps on the SkyDeck, and after stay for the interactive discussion with winemaker Mario Monticelli. 6:30-8:30 PM. Pre-sale tickets are $25, or $30 at the door. Get them by calling 310-546-4995 (1221 N. Valley Dr.).

National Margarita Day today? Don't mind if we do. Loteria Grill always has $5 margaritas for happy hour at the Hollywood, Santa Monica and Studio City locations (3-7 PM). Get the jalapeno one if you like it spicy. At Casa Vega, the classic margaritas are only $4.95 from 11:30 AM to 7 PM. And at Red O, everyone gets a complimentary margarita throughout the night, or try the trio margarita tasting for $25.

Rosa Mexicano launches the Flavors of Mexico series today, a line-up of themed menu additions and hands-on demonstrations at both the Downtown LA and West Hollywood locations. Today through March 10 it's all about breakfast - fried eggs and carnitas hash, nopales con huevo, and cinnamon cascabel-chile-stuffed French toast - for weekend brunch or late-night dinner (10 PM on Friday and Saturday nights). Look for Mexican Passover, mixology and the annual ice cream social in the coming months.

It might be Oscars night in LA tonight, but down in Orange County it's OC Restaurant Week. More than 100 restaurants are participating in the special prix-fixe menus from today through March 2. The kick-off event on Saturday, Feb. 23 features samples from almost half of those participating restaurants, plus cocktails, beer and wine, to benefit Share Our Strength. Go here for more info and tickets.
