Lawsuit Alert: Legal Dispute Possibly Delays Eataly Opening

Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone just sat down around a big bowl of pasta and talked out their problems? Alas, we live in a world of lawsuits and one has been filed in conjunction with the opening or Mario Batali’s Eataly in River North. Initially scheduled to open in September in the space formerly occupied by ESPN zone, the Italian superstore needs more space and is eyeing the property occupied by Texas de Brazil.

According to Chicago Real Estate Daily, Shops at North Bridge is suing to evict the Brazilian steakhouse to make room for the 63,000-square-foot Eataly. However, the owners of the Texas de Brazil chain claim their lease allows them to remain in the space until 2018. Both sides of the legal battle will return to court next week, but it looks like a 2013 opening is unlikely.
