Rum, it's not just for pirates anymore. Tonight (Thur., Feb. 28), Everson Royce hosts a rum tasting at The Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena, which is right next door to the shop. In addition to sampling rums from Papagayo, Prichard's, Neisson and Diplomatico, Talmadge Lowe, owner of Pharmacie LA, will be whipping up cocktails. There will be Cake Monkey sweets for sampling, too, and post-game coffee from Handsome Coffee Roasters. $45 per person; 6-8 PM. Reservations are recommended but not required (145 N. Raymond Ave.; 626-765-9334).
Only a month behind schedule, Alan Jackson's Lemonade debuts on Larchmont in the former Larchmont Larder bungalow this Friday, March 1. All the grab-and-go salads, braised meats, cupcakes, mac and cheese and lemonade you can handle will be available (626 N. Larchmont Blvd.).
Hit Don't Tell Mama, the new piano bar and dining room that arrived from New York City this week. Known for its Broadway-caliber singers, painists, cabaret and performance artists, you'll get showtunes from Evita, Seussical, Sweeny Todd and Footloose along with cocktails and food. The menu (served in the dining room only) features American standards as well, including dishes like scallops with spinach and beurre blanc, and lamb chops with ratatouille and couscous. If daytime's more your thing, brunch begins this Saturday (8279 Santa Monica Blvd.; 323-380-7332).
