Vendy Awards first came to Philadelphia in the summer of 2011, and last year’s food truck event was an even bigger hit. We have good news for mobile kitchen fans: you can look forward to not one but two versions of the gathering in 2013.
June will bring the traditional version of the celebration, during which a panel of judges tastes each of the nominated trucks’ offerings and crowns one vendor the best in Philly. Ticket holders also get to eat their fill during the outdoor cook-off, and then vote on a People’s Choice award. The event benefits local nonprofit The Food Trust.
However, we’ve just discovered November will bring a second Vendy Awards to Philadelphia. New York’s Brooklyn Brewery is organizing an 11 city tour celebrating adventures in food, film, music books and beer called “The Brooklyn Brewery Mash.” The festival descends on Philly from November 7-10, and will include another Vendy Awards (albeit smaller than the summer one). Vendys managing director Helena Tubis confirmed this to us via email, though she didn’t yet have details on location or logistics. No matter what, with food trucks and beer, it’s bound to be a great event.
