Flood Damages The Tortoise Club; the Ceiling Collapses at Cunneen's

The Tortoise Club
So far, 2013 will be known as the year of freak restaurant disasters. A few weeks ago, fires broke out at Dragon Ranch and the new location of Dollop Coffee. Flooding also temporarily closed Dos Diablos. Dollop has since recovered and opened in Streeterville, but now, two more restaurants are closed for repairs.

The Tortoise Club, a swanky new restaurant and lounge adjacent to the Chicago River, flooded this weekend. According to the 312 Dining Diva, a frozen pipe burst caused damage to the lounge floor. Repairs are underway and the restaurant should be back to normal tomorrow.

In a more dramatic turn of events, the ceiling at Cunneen’s in Rogers Park collapsed last week. Bartender Janet Pratt described the incident to DNA Info: "You know in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark?' It started at one end. We turned and we looked, and it just fell." No one was injured, and the bar is scheduled to reopen before the end of the month.
